What I did
Slept
"Hello folks, your captain speaking. We are starting our final descent into Dublin an hour ahead of schedule. The weather is an unseasonably cold 49 degrees" ... I have had goosebumps for the past 15+ hours. Not to complain - I am in Ireland - but it's dang cold. My concept of temperatures while packing was obviously incorrect. Oops :) Celine is going to take us to buy jumpers tomorrow though so we puny Americans stop shivering. Mom, you will be happy to know I won't be living in Ireland anytime soon.
On a happier note, aside from the weather, Ireland shamROCKS! (yes, I said it) The part of the country we are in now looks exactly how I imagined - green flowery hills, small cottages, quaint towns, winding narrow streets, pubs on every corner...just how it should be. And the accent is golden.
After our hour and a half delayed flight in Kansas City our flight from Chicago to Dublin was actually on time and surprisingly pleasant. I think it helped that our plane was half green and had shamrocks painted all over it. Brilliant. Audra was mesmerized by the in-flight mini-4-course meals so that provided some in-flight entertainment. We attempted to sleep but I swear they just kept feeding us. I think I maybe slept about 2 hours. Add that to the on-and-off 1.5 hour of napping we just awoke from and we have gotten about 3.5 hours of sleep over the past 31 hours. Yikes.
Since the tail wind pushed our plane so fast we that landed over an hour early Dave wasn't yet at the airport to pick us up. In zombie mode, we plopped in some chairs and attempted to figure out our phones while waiting. It's already so great to see Dave & Celine - I've missed them so much. For those who don't know, I met this crazy Irish couple on my International Student Volunteer trip to Ecuador last summer. Dave had taken the bus to the airport but luckily his mom was able to pick us up and take us back to Athboy with his adorable baby niece, Eve. Athboy is a small town about an hour northwest of Dublin. Dave took us to lunch in town at a hotel restaurant straight out of a fiction novel. Ancient, dusty books lined the shelves in the walls surrounding what looked like an old men's cigar room. Meanwhile, Willow Smith's "I Whip My Hair Back and Forth" was playing. Google it.
After lunch we walked around town a bit and took some pictures of "genuine Irish lanes, genuine Irish couples, and proper Irish trees". Eventually we were led back to Dave's Mom's house to lounge. We opted to nap in the living room where the fireplace was. As an environmentalist, I now have confused emotions about coal. In Ireland, they burn coal in their fireplaces. As my frozen extremities cry, I can do nothing but feel thankful for that burning coal. I feel like I'm happily contracting lung cancer. In my exhausted state I can't quite process the implications.
And with that, I bid you adieu to go cook fettuccine alfredo for us all! Then it is time for some pints! Maybe we will get some sleep tonight - we will see :)

Love you!
Glad you're enjoying the "proper" Irish setting. SUPER glad you both are safe and sound- dragging a bit, but sound. You're missing some pretty intense storm season here in the Midwest, enjoy those "English mists."
Goodness gracious sakes...have a fantastic time girlies!
