Today we swore in and became Peace Corps Volunteers! We had a brief ceremony this morning on the lawn of the ambassador's house. There were speeches in Arabic and French given by the volunteers, and the ambassador, our trainer Houroumtcho, and a minister of the Chadian government spoke. We all wore garments made of the same fabric, though some used more than others. The biggest trend was to have a cape. I had a blazer made but it was something that would have fit Justin, so I decided since it already looked so 80s I would go all out - porting large pink earrings and blue eyeshadow with my blazer sleeves cuffed - so you'll understand when you see the pictures, if I can ever get them up on the computer.
A few announcements: Thank you so much everyone who has written me. I'm so frustrated right now because I have to get ready for site and want to write as many of you as possible, and hopefully those letters will get to you by Christmas since I'm sending them via our trainer who's flying home to America on the 15th. If not, it might be 2 months before you get anything from me because we only have mail runs ever 6 weeks. That means if you sent a package, and I haven't gotten anything and it's the last day to get something, I won't get it until January. I don't mind though - I will appreciate whatever it is just as much once I get it! So please be understanding about the long gaps between responses. I love you all! I'm going to try try try to get more up on this blog before I leave but there are so many volunteers I will probably only get about 2 hours total on here, and who knows if uploading pictures will work the first time? So I'm sorry for that to. You could always call me because cell service is now in Mongo! One more thing, I had to edit my last entry because we're not supposed to give our exact city for security reasons, but I sent some pictures of Chad and pinpointed where I am so that you'll know where I am. Otherwise, I'm doing great - so psyched about getting to site because after all, this is what I wanted when I said I wanted to do PeaceCorps.
Love you all!
