As promised...an update. (from miss Kimberly)
This morning was a bit of a whirlwind when we discovered Angie's accounts had been compromised, but after realizing her financial accounts were fine, the stress level went down a bit. Her email account has been restored but she's waiting to hear back from Facebook to see if her account can be recovered.
Our days in Caye Caulker have been very laid back and low-key. We are getting very good at sleeping and laying about. We have perfected the slow walk.
We'll be here for a few more days as the ever-elusive Walter has shown (HE EXISTS!). After a night of fun dancing, I'm quite impressed. He's a great guy! And a mental note to myself, the drink called a "panty ripper" is dangerous! (don't worry, it hasn't lived up to its name for either of us...you dirty, dirty people).
I went SCUBA diving the other day in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. It was excellent! I saw a whole bunch of nurse sharks (almost touched one!), lots of fish, a green moray eel, lobsters, a stingray and I got pretty close to a sea turtle! It was awesome. At one point we went through a small sea cavern, it was so dark and creepy, but I made it through without a problem. Most of what I saw was too deep for photos, but I have a few.
We are planning to go snorkeling on Monday. It's a sailing/snorkeling trip to the Hol Chan Shark Ray Alley. Ang snorkeled there last year and says its amazing. We're very excited to go via sailboat, too. We should be able to get lots of photos there.
Speaking of photos, since the travel blog doesn't allow for many photos to be uploaded, I'll post more on my Flickr and Facebook accounts. Once Angie's Facebook account is back to normal, she'll post there as well. You should be able to find my Flickr account by searching via my email address.
Now a note by Ang.
We began our first three days on the island at a rather lackluster hostel. Apparently it's one of the top 10 party hostels and it pretty much sucked. The people were dirty and inconsiderate. Kim and I being the good momma's we are spent much of our time cleaning up after pigs. On Thursday we transferred over to the hostel that Walter is getting up and running. It's 150% times better. We have one full sized bed and a bunk with our own little deck overlooking the street. There's a lot of hustle and bustle around but, it's good!
I signed up to get my SCUBA certification and it did not go well. :( It's supposed to be in five sessions with five pool dives before open water. I went in the water for the first time yesterday and the guy was having me go over stuff from sections 2 and 3 before I even got the basics of breathing under water and stuff figured out. I panicked when we went down and he made me take the regulator out. I calmed myself and tried a couple more times but, it wasn't gonna happen. After talking to a couple other dive instructors and going through the PADI site and looking through my book I saw that it should have been done very differently. My first pool dive I should have been able to touch the bottom. I went to the place and complained but, they said what they were doing was normal and just right. I cancelled my plans. Out $275 US but, I'm not going to do something that makes me uncomfortable. I've never swallowed so much saltwater in my life. Boo Urns.
I still want to learn to SCUBA though and have learned to ask more questions about the facilities and to not assume. It's always a learning experience and even bad situations can turn into positives.
On the positive...WALTER IS HERE!!!!! I don't think Kim has ever seen me so bubbly and jumping about like a little school girl before. He really is a great guy and I freakin' adore him like you would not believe! Perhaps one day you will all call me Mrs. Medina??? ;)
Kim and I awoke this morning and after sending e-mails to get my e-mail stuff figured out we ate breakfast. Then we slept the afternoon away and have now gone and had dinner and cleaned our bodies. It's nearly 8pm. We've definitely mastered the art of lounging about. Karaoke is on the list tonight! God I LOVE karaoke!!!
Life is good.
