Where I stayed
Pines Holiday Park
The drive to Hanmer was fantastic. Middle Earth is really quite stunning. The rolling hills gave way to the snowy mountains and Oscar's first drive was wonderful.
The heater was used to its full potential that night and we woke up to be frozen in. We eventually got out and off to the Alpine Hot Pools.
The Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve offers hot pools of various temperatures bubbling away in the middle of the mountains. Surrounded by ice and snow, getting changed was not too pleasant. However, the pools ranged in temperature between 28 and 41 degrees so pretty soon I'd warmed up. Rob seemed compelled to do lengths in the coldest pools, so I left him to it and sat cooking away in the 41 degree one. They were quite lovely, though there was one slight downside - they are are sulphur based, so as a lovely 3 year old I made friends with resolutely told me, 'It's best not to get in, you'll smell like my Grandpa's gross egg sandwiches."
