After the joys of the Whitsunday Islands the following day we decided to make some progress as we plunged south on Highway 1.
 
Mackay didn't bring the chunky slab of carrot cake we had been hoping for after we had heard on the radio it was a Cancer Research national coffee morning. Despite this major setback we trundled on finally reaching Rockhampton with it numerous public memorials to cows! Continuing further south as the sunlight faded we pulled over for the night at a rest area at Mount Larcom for a spot of satisfying free camping. Numerous comings and goings allowed me some entertaining hours of "campsite gossip"...
