Arriving into Perth was a million miles away from the questionable experiences we had had in South East Asia's airports. There was decent visas, risk free passport checks, and people disinfecting my shoes!

We managed to clear security, and bio-security, and got a bus ride with a very chilled French-Aussie into Perth.

And to our hostel. I managed to part a part among the festering smelly clothes and rotting backpacks to find my rickety bunk. I made my bed trying hard not to disturb to strange amount of people who seemed to be sleeping at 4pm. I went over to Rob's room and followed two blokes in hard hats and very un-pretty shoes in. Apparently everyone here works in Perth, English, French and German waiters, builders and chip shop staff, they have been here for months and months and seem to have morphed into exceptionally dull people, working in the day, drinking in the severely questionable hostel bar at night. This rotting pit of a bar included a guestbook which had an entry reading 'yes, it was me who pissed on the sofa.' Nice.

Our time in Perth was spent wholly shopping and withdrawing funds for a beautiful section of our trip, which you'll read about in the next entry.

Rob had a lovely time buying maps and chatting to Tourist Information staff about routes, while I got to have a most satisfying argument with my arch nemesis, the mobile 'phone company 3.

We ate three solid meals a day on a bench opposite the supermarket, the highlight being our final dinner; bread with sour cream and onion dip, and an entire cake.

We rounded off our trip to Perth with a visit to King's Park, a beautiful, expertly maintained park, boasting amazing views of the city and a glass bottomed tree top walk way.
