Leaving Shanghai from its brand new south train station, we hopped on an express train to Hangzhou with some fantastic memories from the last 5 days. For once finding the hostel with remarkable ease, we're just spending an afternoon in the warm (or actually not so warm in this internet cafe!?) trying to shake off our rather annoying colds.

We managed to slightly shake off the colds and hired a pair of very suspect bikes to explore Hangzhou. Rust was the star feature - brakes a little overrated! Rob (obviously) took me on the hardest of the routes, battling up the hills to visit tea plantations and picturesque villages. The scenery up in the hills did however prove well worth the struggle!

In the afternoon we set off to circumnavigate the lake. I was promised that if I did not utter a word about the terrible cold and my horrid feet, I would win a date in Starbucks with my lovely boyfriend. I was a complete hero and succeded.

We left Hangzhou the next morning and I had banked my Starbucks voucher for use in Guangzhou, which is a great story, but I'll have to tell you later as I'm dying for a Diet Coke / Tsingtao Beer...

bike ride in Hangzhou
Hi, your travel blog is such a nice read. Your bike ride sounds fun, as you both know nothing can beat the satisfaction of covering some distance, but at a quiet and sedate speed to take in your surroundings! Enjoy!

Its mild up over in Norfolk today and it has been very bright, it was light until 1715 so I almost cycled back from work without lights! Spring is coming here and I hope it arrives in China too because it looks so cold in the news coverage.

Have lots of fun,

Michael
