We've seen lots of dead possums on the road - I've been kidding Steve about scooping them up to make a possum hat. It would have cost a lot less than the possum hats in the store! Many New Zealanders believe that the only good possum is a dead possum.
So far I've endured sleeping with two men(!!!) - at least with two other men in the same room. It does get a might noisy, what with all the snoring!!! I still think that earplugs are one of the best things I brought along on the trip. Steve snores so much that even he has resorted to using earplugs on occasion
Many tourists come to this area to see and walk the glaciers - Fox and Franz Josef. Heather and I walked on the Fox Glacier. Staring down a deep, dark crevasse definitely sends a chill down your spine!
One of the conveniences we've appreciated about New Zealand are the public toilets at the centre of every town. There's nothing like having to look for a washroom when you need one - those who spend a lot of time on the road will know what I mean!
Throughout our travels, we've been carrying around a little friend with us, known to most as Sponge Bob Squarepants. Actually, he belongs to Martin's nephew, Rory. We kidnapped him and have been sending home photos of Sponge Bob from various locations with clues as to where he's been. He rode an elephant in Thailand, met some hill tribe children in Vietnam and even when bungy jumping at Queenstown! I'm sure Heather's children have figured out who the culprits are by now. It's been a lot of fun.
