After spending the night just out of Opole by a lake we got up early
and drove to Auchwitz concentration camp.  Paid for an English
tour of 3 1/2 hours.  The tour guide took us to Birkenau
camp which was the biggest camp and had 4 cremotoriams compared to the
1 that Auchwitz had.  Saw the living conditions of the prisoners
and heard terrible stories of how they were treated, a very sombering
experience, we all felt quite sick when we came out, something that
everyone must experience though.

Drove onto Krakow and found a camping ground that was close to the city
and very reasonable, no laundry facilities though so back to hand
washing again......

Ran out of gas to power our fridge and cook with so drove around a few
supermarkets to see they had any....no luck, frustrating when massive
tescos and carrefours that sell just about everything you can imagine
from food to tv's do not even have camping gas.  Opted for a
cooked chicken (4 kiwi), potato salad and rolls.

Cyrus and Hayden went for a drive in the morning and found a LPG
station that would fill our UK gas bottle so that was one problem
solved for the time being.  Spent the morning attending to chores
like washing and internet then caught a tram into the centre for a look
around.  The boys couldnt help but notice all the pretty girls
walking around, alot of them wearing next to nothing.....now I know why
Matt (flatty) enjoyed Krakow so much!!

While meandering around the beautiful cobblestone streets with horses
and carriages and lots of tourists we found a sign that interested us
'BOOZE CRUISE'.  Well that sounded a bit like us, it was Saturday
night afterall.  Went back to campsite and changed then came back
to the meeting point for the booze cruise.  Around 35 euros a
couple got your free booze and food for 3 hours along the river,
bargin!!  I thought so until Ants and I tried the wine, it was
barely drinkable, had to mix with some sprite.  BBQ was great
though and reminded us of back home.  Was a great night, met some
Irish, Poms and even some Egyptians.  After the cruise they took
us to a local club for a free drink, didnt stay to long as one of us
(no names mentioned) hit a brick wall so had to get some maccas and a
taxi back to camp ground.

Next day was slow, Ants and I were rearing to go shopping, found a huge
shopping plaza on the map with 130 shops, dragged the boys along with
us, well they had the credit cards!!  Wasn't as cheap as we
thought it would be, had to really look around for the sale
items.  Hayden and I ended up both buying a pair of Lee jeans that
were about $50 cheaper than back home.  That afternoon we met up
with Hamish and Katie at the camping ground and took them out in town
to a traditional Polish restaurant where we had a sour wheat soup and
sausages, sounds terrible but actually really tasty.

Tomorrow we are leaving Krakow and going to do the salt mines on our way to Zakopane.

Hope everyone is well and healthy back home, keep the updates coming.......love hearing what you guys are all up to.

Hi Kim and Hayden, Love hearing of your fabulous travels again so soon! You'll be getting organised for wedding - only a few days away. Time seems to have gone real quick. Well into the last month of winter and weather has been rather warm over the past week - up to 18! Saw Bex last Thursday when she came into school with our Public Health Nurse, as she is on placement with them! Caught up with her news and showed me her engagement ring!! Getting married next year. They've bought their own place in York St. Been having the usual get togethers with the gang! Think its our turn this weekend for a pot luck dinner! All Blacks & Silver Ferns have been named for World Cup series. Big surprise - Piri Weepu missed out on selection - he's done something to upset the selectors! I think he's better than that useless Kelleher! Ferns kept with the same squad that lost the recent series 2-1 against Aussies! Doesn't look good for us! NPC well underway now but doesn't hold the same interest as Super 14. Have wonderful time at wedding. Miss you both. Seems funny not seeing you when I go to Palmy. Best go and feed Carly - she's in the washing basket being annoying! Krystal curled up in her basket in front of the fire! Look forward to the next travelogue! Luv and cheers from Mum, Dad, Krystal and Carly. xoxoxoxo
