The first stop in our "official" tour through Venezuela was the beach town of Puerto Colombia. We arrived here after a few hours of very twisty roads. We`re traveling in a rather large "truck" (with space for twenty odd people, their bags, camping equiptment and kitchen supplies for all), and as a result, we took up most of the one lane road. There were many 180 degree turns where the truck couldn`t make it, and we ended up backing up, turning a bit more, and repeating the process until we had cleared the curve. It made for an interesting few hours!
We did, however, arrive eventually, and after dropping our bags we headed straight for the beach. Set between a few mountains, where the cacti dead end into the ocean, we found a white sand beach lined with palm trees, and some huge waves to play in -- it was a beautiful sight, and we enjoyed the last few hours of daylight there. On Thursday (the 24th) we had the day to spend relaxing, sleeping in, and hanging out at the beach. In the evening, we joined the rest of the group for a nice dinner out to celebrate Christmas Eve.
