After a leisurely and productive morning in La Ceiba, John and I made it down to the ferry dock in the afternoon, and sure enough -- there was Stephanie! We were able to meet up with her at the dock as planned in order to catch the ferry to Utila. For those who don“t know Stephanie, she“s a friend of mine (Kim) from high school, who came down to visit us on our trip. She actually arrived a few days ago, and has been hanging out at the nearby island of Roatan while John and I finished up our volunteer time in Belize.
Upon arriving at Utila, we picked a dive shop (Captian Morgans, based in part on the strong recommendations we“ve been getting from various people on our trip), found a hotel, and then it was about time for dinner and a bed!
Sunday
Diving! We woke up this morning, and took the boat out to the cays to pick up our gear and the other divers, then headed around to the north side of the island for our dives. The first dive was a wall dive in Turtle Harbor, with a fantastic coral wall, a seahorse, and great fish. (A coral wall is exactly what it sounds like -- a vertical coral formation that drops sharply, looking like, well, a wall. This one extended from about 25 feet to about 100 feet in depth.) The second dive was closer to the dive shop, at Stingray Point. Along with great coral and lots of fish, the highlight here was the huge spotted Eagle Ray that swam by. This ray had a “wingspan“ of about 6-8 feet -- very impressive!
