One of the features of traveling down the Atlantic coast through this region is that we are following the second largest barrier reef in the world, which continues all the way to Honduras.  This relates to some fabulous SCUBA diving along the way, with opportunities at every corner.  While we donīt plan to do too much diving ($$$) there are a few places that seem worth checking out.  The first of these is Cozumel.  When I visited here with Steph, I was really impressed by the reefs, the corals, the fish and the other aquatic life.  I also liked the drift diving style -- jump in and simply float under water, letting the current pull you along.  So our second day trip from Playa was to visit Cozumel and dive.

After waking up to catch the 6 am ferry, we showed up at Aqua Safari, and they were able to get us in on their morning dive.  The first dive, at Palancar Gardens, was the better of the two, in terms of bolder, brighter corals, lots of fish, a few nice swim throughs, etc.  The currents werenīt as strong as I remember from before, but the visibility and colors were still fantastic.  On the second dive, in addition to the corals and fish, there was also a seahorse hanging on to a piece of dead coral, just watching the world go by.  We considered doing a third dive in the afternoon, but the first two left us rather exhausted and ready to spend yet another evening relaxing on the beach in Playa.
