El Buen Fin is the cheapest time of the year. During this weekend, Friday to Monday, in Mexico you are able to enjoy discounts everywhere, with almost every shop offering at least 15% off their products! How amazing is that? As if I didn't need another excuse to visit the shops, on Friday, Rosie and I went to Plaza la Isla which is in the Hotel Zone and is a really pretty mall built within the lagoon. I did well, subconsciously or not, forgetting to bring my debit card, limiting me to the purchase of only two tops from Pull & Bear. 15% off, win. Some shops offer discounts of 50-70% off, and the electronics section in Walmart was absolutely rammed full of people hunting for goods.

Cinema VIP. Just when I thought that the Mexican cinema experience couldn't get any better, I entered the world of Cinepolis VIP. Reclining leather sofas, with tables, lamps and waiters that you can call by the press of a button. I ordered a combo deal (of course) and the waiter brought over a hot dog, some curly fries, popcorn and my drink. I was devastated when I couldn't even make a dent in my popcorn- so full! Ah the week also included another visit to the Irish pub for ladies night with the residencial.

On Saturday I woke up really early so that I could make the most of the beach and the sun, which usually disappears in the Hotel Zone at 5pm. I was out of the house by 9am and the residential was dead with people recovering from the night/early hours of the morning. Today was the first day that I have spent alone. I got the bus from outside the Residential to Playa Forum and it was absolutely beautiful. The best since I have been here... the sea was an amazing shade of blue, glistening in the sun and the water was still. Incredible. So pretty. I had my new Jordan rucksack (sick) with me, packed with my basketball kit ready to go straight to my game for 5pm, so I set up camp right on the sea front so that I could see/chase after any thieves... Some question why I was alone, but to be honest I loved it and it was just so relaxing, and after almost two months of nonstop excitement it was needed. I read my kindle, listened to my music (which I haven't had the chance to do since being here,) swam in the sea and just relaxed in the most beautiful setting. My friends in England will know how much I love to eat in restaurants, so much so, that I have no shame in sometimes asking for a table for one... so I embraced this opportunity to do what I do best, and I may have just found my replacement for Nando's in the form of Chili's. I ordered the Fajita Pita and it was SO tasty.

Talking about restaurants, during my last few months in England I was sent to a Fat Farm/Chubster's Camp, whichever you prefer, after spending almost 6/7 days a week frequenting my favourite restaurants. After doing so well at bootcamp, then going back to old habits shortly before ending my time in England, I'm happy to say that Mexico has worked a treat! I'm not sure whether I owe my thanks to Revancha, google this if I haven't already told you about it, the intense heat, the Mexican food diet, or the fact that I'm exercising every day... but I have lost a lot of weight since I've been here and I'm going to do my best to keep it off :)

Basketball match was cancelled again this week, due to the other team not turning up, so Maryanna and I hit Walmart and then Parque de las Palapas where a fair ground had been set up next to the hippy park. After some persuasion, some hotcakes and wandering around for a bit, I managed to get her to go on a ride with me... one which goes around in a circle really fast and crushes the big person (me.) It was hilarious! Afterwards we spent the last hours of the day at a bar, enjoying 2x1 cocktails and talking absolute rubbish as always :)

Sunday! Trip to Tulum with Maryanna, Edith and Tec! El Buen Fin is over a bank holiday weekend, and so we also had Monday free (making it a 4 day weekend for me,) so we had an early start with Tec behind the wheel. I almost got emotional after Robbie Williams- Angels was played in the car... flashbacks of group huddles with my friends for the last song of the night with everyone screaming the lyrics at full volume, arms draped lovingly around each other... good times. After 2 hours we arrived at the Ruins which are built on the cliff edge overlooking one of the best beaches in the world, officially. Sadly it was a cloudy day, but even so, the colour of the sea was still so vibrant and it was the brightest and most amazing shade of blue. We walked around the ruins and then made our descent down to the beach, passing many iguanas on the way. The sand was so white and so soft under your toes, it was amazing. After, we visited another beach which I have to return to, it was so beautiful even when the sky was filled with clouds. The sun wasn't shining and so it was a little cold in the sea at first but then I forgot all about it as the salts allowed me to float on my back effortlessly.

Last minute change of plan to spend the night in Playa del Carmen after we couldn't find any cheap cabanas in Tulum. So we made the drive to Playa, half way between Cancún and Tulum. We were getting desperate, as everywhere was full for the night. We stopped at so many hotels to ask if they had any vacancies for 4 people... nada, unless it was extortionate... y lo menos? We then decided to park the car and walk along Quinta Avenida/5th Avenue, where all the bars, restaurants and shops are located, and we found our little hotel. Pretty big room actually with 2 double beds! Quinta Avenida is a tourists dream, and they threatened to take away my purse to protect me from entering, they already know me too well and call me a shopaholic...

This weekend also marked my first time wearing jeans in Mexico, Sunday night I decided to be a true Mexican and face the heat! We explored Quinta Avenida and went to Quekas for quesadillas and sopes mmm. By this time it was around midnight and Maryanna and I decided to go back to the bar where there was live music, but by the time we got there it had finished :( So we walked further along 5th Avenue and arrived at all the clubs. Maryanna had her sarong/pareo wrapped around her shoulders, and I was wearing jeans, a tshirt, and had a pullover in my hand... not exactly club gear, but after faffing about trying to decide which club to go to, we decided on Blue Parrot. The beach club. There was a foam party which was hilarious to see all the perreo within the foam... and endless men trying to hit on us from behind. This ended with us lifting each other out of their reach and heading straight into the foam to the other side. Hilarious. Especially with Maryanna trying to lift my fat ass. This happened so many times, so funny! We were absolutely drenched, both of us in jeans, soaking wet! There was a free bar again, with swings and it was a great night. We walked home at about 4am, Playa del Carmen was a bit dead considering its reputation, but then again it was a Sunday in November... "Come back Jack." The walk back was like a scene from Titanic. Maryanna was freezing, with only her sarong, and my arm to keep her warm. Such a funny walk back. Come baaaack, Jack, come back. By this point I was pretty drunk and had to do everything in my power to resist the urge of jumping on the other two when we got back.

Funny times waking up the next day... fighting and eventually being pushed off the bed. After finally getting ready, and drying my money from the night before, we made it out of the house and headed to the beach for the day. SO BEAUTIFUL.

I don't think I'll ever get over the sight of the beaches here in Quintana Roo. Everytime I see the amazing colour of the sea I let out a little squel. The beach was rammed, with so many people in comparison to the beaches in Cancun suprisingly. Lots of activities going on such as parasailing, jet skis, paddle boarding and loads of parachutes floating in the sky.I heard quite a few English accents too which is always strange, yet comforting. We relaxed on the beach, sun bathed and swam in the sea.

The sun was shining bright today and it was a great finish to a great weekend with some pretty special friends.

El buen fin x
