... THIS IS SURREAL!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so I'm in Cancún now and so much has happened in just one full day of being here, I can't believe it! I'm going to write about the good stuff first, and then the bad stuff that I can now look back and laugh about. Actually no, I'll just write about the house quickly. The family are nice, but have clearly played host too many times to put the amount of effort in we kind of expected... The house is big, but the shower is cold and doesn't drain. The dogs are a pain in the ass, and are trained to bite. Both of us are keen to move out asap.

I have no idea where to start, yesterday couldn't have been any better if I had imagined it. Seriously, even the fact that the family were awol in the morning, nothing could put a downer on this day, even when we went outside to explore the nearby streets the monsoon rain hit us hard.

We woke up to a cold shower, which was pretty foul... and then one of the 7 (or 8) dogs left a couple of presents in our bathroom. This was disgusting! The family have so many dogs and one cat that just bark at you constantly before entering the house, not ideal. Looking to move out asap, and had arranged some house viewings already.

So after exploring the surrounding streets and finding an oxxo, we were sat awkwardly downstairs waiting for the dad (we were supposed to have breakfast with him...) in the end we got up and walked a couple of blocks to find the bus stop, and after waiting on the wrong side of the road for a while, we made it to the Hotel Zone. We checked out the lagoon, which seperates the Hotel Zone and the Ciudad and we found so many iguanas sat on the deck. The hotel's are pretty spectacular and after having lunch at this amazing Mexican cantina, where they brought us sombreros, bullets and the nicest smoothie, we went to find the BEACH.

Wow. The most amazing shade of turquoise, it is amazing. Truly paradise. How were we so bloody lucky? I can definitely get used to this! After walking the beach round various hotels, we stopped for a Coco Loco drink, which is 4 spirits in a coconut. So refreshing. Drinking these on the sunloungers we made some friends with a Dane and a Mexican and decided to meet them out later.

After falling in the sea, but managing to save my Coco Loco of course, my shorts were completely soaked as we got on another bus up to the Universidad del Caribe. We decided to go and investigate the place where we would be working, but more so, to meet Ile who had been talking to us on facebook and she is lovely :) Tonight we are going to her house for dinner with her Mexican friends! The University is really nice, with pretty lakes/swamps with crocodiles and the outdoor basketball court got me so excited. Our work colleagues are great and the layout of the language centre is really nice and has a great atmosphere, excited to start on Monday! Then we went to find the Patrono Deportivo, where we met a man who was SO excited and keen for me to join the Mantarrayas Basketball team... which would just be incredible! He made some phone calls and within 15 minutes to of the girls from the team came up to find me, so fingers crossed they can register me! So bloody exciting!!! Yaaaaay!! More good news, we found out about some student residential houses which are perfect! We emailed him separately yesterday and both got replies today- SUCCESS! SO HAPPY!!!

Then we came back 'home' got ready quickly (foundation is not an option as it would just be sweated off immediately mmm) then went back to the hotel zone where we were treated to some tacos and entry to a bar/club with free drinks all night. Epic. So much fun. Then we tried to go swimming in the sea but the security guards wouldn't let us, due to the Mantarrays!? In the end we paddled about near the shore which was good :)

Rolled home just after 5, to battle with the barking dogs, and once we got in, the woman was still up and walking about?! Crazy. So strange!

What a day. What a start to an amazing year this is going to be.

Dinner tonight with Ile and her friends, and moving house tomorrow hopefully. DREAM.
