1 week to go... let the countdown begin... 7 days. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! SO EXCITED!

My close friends will know that my TravelPod has existed for a while now... but, as is customary for most 3rd year language students going on "the adventure of a lifetime," I will be blogging throughout my time in Mexico. I will try my best to keep those of you who care, updated on my trials and tribulations, my debilitating battle with tequila and whether my well known weakness for "Spanish" men should in fact be widened to the broader title, "Men with Latino vibes," or in my dad's words, the hunt for Mr Gonzalez. Blimey. Reading that back, its basically a quick summary of my Vegas blog...

Ok, so my life is about to be flipped upside down as I put my studying (or what I convince myself was "studying") on hold, by testing my parents' stress levels yet again with one of my biggest adventures to date: my Year Abroad in Mexico. This year, I will be working as an English Oral Teacher at the Universidad del Caribe for 9 months, whilst struggling to write a 6,000 word research project, in Spanish.

Despite what has been written in the media recently, and the look of sheer horror from my family as I told them that I wanted to apply to live in Mexico for a year... I cannot wait to start my life living in one of the most fascinating countries in the world, and on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world; Cancún. I AM MOVING TO CANCÚN!

CANCÚN! I can't believe it, so lucky!

Unfortunately Mexico is known for one thing at the moment and has quite the reputation... no, I'm not talking about the ponchos and sombreros (a stereotype which their Olympians only encouraged,) but the drug wars and escalating violence which have spread across the North of the country, forcing me to move from my original placement. This image of Mexico has, consequently, been etched into the minds of my parents and every time the word "Mexico" is said, I see the instant frowns spread across their faces. Not happy. Oops.

This is one of the reasons why I will be writing and updating this blog as often as I can, to reassure my loved ones that all is well, and that my tan is coming along nicely. Having said this, if you are reading this as you happened to click on the link and are one of my 'facebook friends' who I met years ago and haven't spoken to since, you may want to delete me as I can't promise I won't be annoying you throughout my time in Mexico.  I'm annoying on facebook as it is, so please feel free to delete me now... don't say I never warned you aha :)

Wow, one week to go until I, along with the other Southampton students, board our BA flight direct to Mexico City to begin our placements all over Mexico, and wave tearful goodbyes to our families. Sadly for me, my brother has started a new job in Australia and my twin sister can't get time off her placement, so this will just be a tearful goodbye to my parents. I hope my mother will be able to let me go through check in and security as I know she has secretly hoped, since January, that I would change my mind and opt for the safer and closer option, Spain. Sorry mum... Now there's only one child left in the Fenton household. Sorry Sal...

One week to go, time to pack. If anyone has had the pleasure of entering my room at Uni, they will know just how much crap I've managed to accumulate over the years, and will be able to fully understand just how difficult it will be for me to pack for 1 year with minimal luggage. Challenge number 1.

Challenge number 2. Saying goodbye to people has been ok so far as it hasn't quite sunk in yet... but I'm invading Southampton this week to say my last farewells to my uni friends and teammates. I can't even begin to describe how much I'm going to miss them and being part of SUBC Sharks. Its going to be unbelievably painful seeing all the drunken pictures and WINNING statuses being so far away from all of the ups and downs... but I love you all, and wish you the best of luck for this year :)

So yeh, this first blog post is basically to warn you all of what's to come, in terms of my possible over-active facebook use and frequent/infrequent blogging... so please act as you so desire, but I would love to hear from people as much as possible as I'm sure its going to be an exciting, yet difficult journey over there, so far away from all you beauties.
