We travelled west to Lattakia which is the principal port town in Syria located on the Med just north from Lebanon. Here there is a much more liberal and european lifestyle than most other Syrian towns. We did some trips into the mountains from here and seen some incredible things like the castle of Sa Alheideen, the dead cities of Al Bara and Serjilla plus the tiny town Slumfeh which was covered in a layer of snow. There are some lovely beaches up near the Turkish border too. We also learned that the locals (few who admit to drinking alchohol ) drink a potent drink called Arak thats similar to sambuca or ouzo and its terrible stuff.
