Where I stayed
Jean:
Kieran was still yammering at me at 2 AM so we almost didn't make it to breakfast by 9:30. We had the full English again but she won"t eat the black pudding now that she knows what it's made from.
We are staying in a wonderful house that was built in 1729. In 1827 it was bought by William Wordsworth for his son Willie. Wordsworth lived at nearby Dove Cottage, then moved to Rydal Mount after he became Poet Laureate of England. The gardens here are absolutely lovely with HUGE banks of rhododendrons around the yard and a beech hedge. It is across from one of the many lakes, and a beautiful little river runs from here to the town of Grasmere.
We still haven't decided what we are doing today.......too many options.
Kieran:
Just to let you know I will eat the black pudding. I just wanted a day to process what it was made of. Anyway after breakfast we came up to the room and decided what to do. We ended up deciding to walk to Grasmere, which is about a 2 hour walk if you walk around the lake. I am very glad we choose to walk around the lake because it was quite beautiful. It had a large creek that we walked around too, and I even waded for a bit.
After a while of walking we came to a split in the road. The instructions said to go right so we did, why not follow directions. We walked for a long time and got ice cream at a truck on the way. Just as I was finishing my mint ice cream and we walked right back to the hotel. It had turned out that some how the directions weren't right so we had walked in a huge circle.
Well after walking for that long of a time we we're tired and our legs were soar so we went to our room and drank some tea. We didn't want to stay here so we drove to Grasmere and went to Wordworth's house. For those of you who don't know who he is he is a very famous poet. His garden was gorgeous and rather big.
After we went to his house we went to go eat but everything was either closed or there was no parking. We did go to this gingerbread place which has the best gingerbread EVER! We also got some mint cakes. We want to melt them with chocolate and pour it over ice cream. Doesn't that sound delicious?
For dinner we went to a place called Drunken Duck. It was delicious. Grandma and I got the same thing because I picked and she thought that sounded good so she got it too. We had mint pea soup, gnocchi, and tomato juice. The soup sounds kind of gross but it is great. The gnocchi was really good but it wasn't normal gnocchi the noodles were fried. The tomato juice was actually called consunme and was the green liquid in tomatoes and was delicious. I loved it and so did Grandma.
