From Salt Lake City we made it to a stopover in the small town of Elko where we stayed (for the first and only time on our trip) in a motel - The Thunderbird Inn! As motel's go, this one far surpassed the expectations you might have if you've ever watched an episode of CSI. It had a swimming pool for starters. We had a nice evening there consisting of Pizza Hut and the most heavily edited version of Pulp Fiction that you could possibly imagine. Honestly, it was like 30mins shorter!

The next day we got to Reno which is a bit like Las Vegas but with fewer casinos and no "strip" to walk along. We had the "Vegas Experience" here though as we stayed in the Atlantis Resort which had the full amenities of a casino... Big fitness center, indoor pool, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, spa, high-end restaurants and bars, games room (for the kids)... y'know, luxury etc. etc.

An unexpected surprise whilst we were there was a crazy souped-up car competition that took place in the parking lot adjacent to the hotel that we stumbled into. There was easily 100 cars competing and some of them were insane. From beautiful classic cadillacs to a wierd Irish-themed roadster. It was strange but great to see - like an insight into a classic era of American history still alive and buzzing. Check out the pics below to see just some of what was on show :-)
