On our first day in Colorado Springs we visited the Garden of the Gods which is a free public park full of unusual and steep rock formations. It's a popular tourist spot and people can hike and bike around it or if they're feeling brave (as a few people were when we were there) they can even do some rock climbing.

On the second day we had a fantastic trip to he top of Pike's Peak mountain on a cog railway. The summit of the mountain stands at over 14,000 feet above sea level. It took an hour and a half for the train to make the journey, and during that time a guide filled us in on lots of interesting information about the mountain, the surrounding area and the cog railway itself. We also saw some wildlife on the way up - deer, goat and marmots.

At the top of the mountain we only had 40mins to walk around and admire the view so we were marching around pretty quick and soon getting out of breath due to the air being so thin! But the views were spectacular and it was so strange looking down on clouds and also being in them some of the time!

On the way back down a thunderstorm came over us. When we had been at the top our guide had warned us that if we felt electricity in the air we should run inside as we were "the tallest things on the mountain". Thankfully it stayed away until our return journey but it was quite entertaining watching people get a bit hysterical about the thunder and lightning.

So far, this was definitely one of the highlights of the trip, almost as good as Niagara Falls.
