Made it to São Paulo. I heard little good about this city, but I am feeling slightly relieved and at home to be in a big modern city. Manaus was better than i expected, full of colorful stands and european style buildings. They call it the Paris of the Amazon, kind of a stretch, but it was pretty in parts. I was excited to fly out of the Amazon, partly to get a good feeling of just how massive it is. I expected miles upon miles of just pure green-which I got for about the first hour, then the startling and depressing two more hours(almost) of small patches of green between huge bare patches-grass and dirt the result of heavy logging. It was worse than I expected and shattered my little dream world about the Amazon being endless....
What is seemingly endless though is this city! Flying in was remarkable at night, so many lights as far as I could see. Tomorrow we will explore a bit, and hopefully have good sushi(São Paulo has the biggest Japanese population outside of Japan)
