Before I left Canada I really didn't know what to expect. After waiting for 2 hours at baggage claim, I realized that life in Spain is a lot slower than life in Canada. Once I arrived in Ciudad Real, where I will be living for the next 10 months, I encountered the next difference, the heat. Temperatures during the day can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, and at night it only goes down to 20 degrees. This is a huge difference for me as in Sudbury, where I attend Laurentian University, they are starting to wear pants as the temperature is already cooling down. Ciudad real is pretty much a ghost town between the hours of 2 and 5, because it is too hot to be outside as well as all the stores close for lunch. Thats the next difference, stores closing for lunch doesn't happen at home.

Ciudad Real is a beautiful city, filled with old buildings and many different plazas. Though it is difficult to orientate yourself as the streets don't really run parallel or perpendicular to each other, they go in any which way. After almost a week here, I can only get to my apartment in one specific route, if not i'm lost.

With classes not starting until the 16th I have lots of time to discover the city more and hopefully get a trip to another city in.
