We started our trip with a few days in Bali to get over the jet lag,
acclimatise (to the weather and the idea of not working until next
year ;-) ,and most importantly figure out what we were going to do
with two months in Indonesia - little did we know then that the time would fly by with most of it spent traversing this giant country.
Our next move was to spend just over a week on Bunaken Island in North
Sulawesi - this is one of the world's great scuba diving spots. I
wasn't really sure what to expect but the diving turned out to be
awesome - on a par with the best we've done so far. There is that much
marine life that almost every dive is like putting your head into an
aquarium, coupled with regular sightings of turtles, sharks and
barracuda, with enough variety between dive sites that it doesn't ever
get boring.
We stayed at Two Fish Divers (www.twofishdivers.com) and hoped to meet
other travellers to work out where we should go in Indonesia - one
recurring theme in this country is that no travel agent seems to have
any information about anywhere that isn't fairly close e.g. no one in
Bali could really tell us much about Sulawesi (some hadn't even heard of it?!), Sumatra or Flores, and the last published Rough Guide is 3 years old. It's partly a
reflection of the sheer size and scale of Indonesia, and partly the
lack of cohesion or centralised information. (So thanks Pete and Greg
for your recommendations re Mt Bromo and Flores respectively).

Indonesia
Very interesting and informative narration. The photos are superb, wish I was young enough to go diving!!! I have enjoyed reading the comments. All the best for the rest of the travels and look forward to see you both in December.
