Last week I discussed my experience with Nathaniel, a young magician, and how he has been charged with dealing with the group called the Resistance. Nathaniel has had enormous difficulty trying to get any clues about this group; in fact, he has not been able to track down a single member or discover any of their plans before they happen. But I have meet three of the members and followed them as they operated one of their attacks! My experience with them brought me yet another perspective on the same place, which is interesting to me. For instance, to Nathaniel, the Resistance are dangerous and mysterious nuisances that he wants to get rid of in order to look good to his fellow magicians. Bartimaeus, who Nathaniel has summoned for help, doesn't really care; he is just following the orders he is forced to follow. Although his attitude toward magicians is a sarcastic disdain if not disgust.

From what I can tell,a young girl named Kitty is the leader of the Resistance. She has a completely different attitude than either Nathaniel or Bartimaeus. She has grown up as a 'commoner,' which basically means she is not a magician. From her view, the magicians are completely corrupt and arrogant and brutally mistreat all of those who are not magicians. In history class, her teacher would explain that they would have been helpless without the magicians, so it seems like the magicians may actually be afraid of an uprising... which is exactly what Kitty ends up leading, after years of being mistreated.

This week I got to meet another character and look at something while standing in someone else's shoes. I'm pretty sure these characters will meet eventually, especially now that Bartimaeus has been sent to find Kitty. It's always interesting when different characters with different perspectives and attitudes are brought together!
