Hello all! I am writing to you from London. I think I will be staying here for a while…at least until the character and political conflicts I am observing here are resolved! I visited Nathaniel, who I met on a previous trip to London. Back then, he was still training to become a magician, but now he has already become an assistant to the head of one of the departments of Britain's government system, which is run by all magicians. Nathaniel is only fourteen! He shows incredible talent, but his ambition worries me sometimes. I think he is trying too hard to get the wrong things, such as prestige or power, and is learning to treat those who are not magicians very poorly. I went with him to a party full of magicians, and I saw that he was trying his very best to play the sly mind games that constantly occupy many politicians, and certainly most magicians in London. It is slightly eerie to hear and see such a young boy already acting the part of an over-ambitious politician.

Nathaniel has been given the assignment of investigating a group called the Resistance, who apparently are a band of kids, many of them orphans, who are stealing a bunch of magical artifacts from the magicians and using them in attacks against them. Even though I have gotten to know Nathaniel as a central character and have rooted for him, I also find myself empathetic towards the Resistance, because the rule of the magicians has been so corrupt.

Nathaniel is getting really desperate to get a breakthrough on his assignment, so he summoned Bartimaeus again…and charged him to investigate the group as well. Bartimaeus was not happy about that, but I am looking forward to following him around on his adventures!

Your novel/travels sound really engaging and totally different from the past travels I've taken. I need to check them out. (Be sure to include the title of your novel for other travelers' reference.)

Kerri, Do you know how to publish your location on a map? Since you're traveling so many places, it would be cool to see a visual representation of your journey.
