we are enjoying our last day in Dubrovnik. We've been a little lazy here, but it is a lovely place to be lazy. We are greatly enjoying our balcony with a beautiful view of the old town. We are also loving the swimming rocks directly below our apartment. It is easy to get to but hard to get back from due to a very steep ascent. We are ready to move on though. Today we hiked the walls surrounding the city. It was so beautiful. One side has views of the old town, the other side has views of the sea. There was a really nice breeze that helped ease the sweat situation a bit. I feel like I have to wash everything I wear immediately after wearing it for even two hours due to the sweat. We have been doing ALOT of laundry. Tomorrow we are taking a night ferry back to Italy. We have loved Croatia but I am realizing it is difficult to travel without a plan over here, especially isince we have to make it back to Italy eventually. Most of the high season ferries ended a few days ago, so now our ferry options are a lot more limited. So we will end up spending half the trip in Croatia and half in Italy. Just can't seem to stay away from italy! Plus Trent has not been to many of my favorite Italian places, so I look forward to seeing them with him.

A few observations on Croatia. The people are pretty nice, especially nice considering how many tourists they deal with on a daily basis. The food has been good, but pretty consistent with Mediterranean type food, so we haven't experienced the traditional Balkan food. We would have had to venture further inward than that. Dubrovnik was the only seaside destination that was hit by the war for independence. It is amazing that the walls we hiked on today were actually used for protection just a few years back. A lot of our waitresses in their twenties have braces. Don't know why this stood out to me! They eat spalado which is the same as gelato. I think it is funny that they rhyme. The salado is just as good as Italy's gelato.

Oh a couple funny things from today. We watched a lady come to the swimming rocks in a black bikini, and then as soon as she laid down she took the bottoms off and switched to identical white bottoms. We also had a very sassy waitress that seemed to mock whatever I said. Like I said I wanted a coke, and when she brought it said 'here's your coke' very snotty like my sister might have said back in the sybling rivalry days. I did not like her snideness!

Think that's it for now. Time for a sweaty ten minute walk to old town for dinner at a cheap pizzeria!

Oh, Krystal, that's just really too bad that you're going to have to spend so much time in Italy! My heart bleeds for you. May I suggest Sorrento--your parents' personal favorite. And, I believe you've never made it to Pompeii, now that's a tragedy. I'm glad someone in Croatia is keeping you grounded and reminded of family. Did the waitress look like Kari, too? Are there any little munchkins around for you to play auntie to; that would make you feel right at home! Counting the days till you are back! Oh and don't forget to eat some of that gelato/salado for me--make sure it is chocolate :-) Love ya forever, Mom

I want to hear more about this bikini bottom incident. It both confuses and intrigues me.
