I am officially all ready to go!!  Just kidding :-)  I still have 4 hours before Trent is picking me up, so I think I have procrastinated an adequate amount, and I can now prepare for the trip. I am trying to pack extra light for this trip since I will be carrying everything I will need for 14 days on my back.  I think I've done pretty well.  It is always hard at the last minute not throwing about 50 extra things in just in case.  My biggest goal is to always have a lighter bag than Trent, but his is pretty streamlined this trip, so who knows.  I was going to work this morning, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead I got one last cappuccino at the Coffee Hound, and I'm writing my first blog entry.

So if you're wondering what the next 24 hours might have in store for me, here's the story.  We fly from Bloomington to Detroit (much to my father's chagrin who apparently hates the Detroit airport), and then from Detroit to Rome. We should arrive in Rome Wednesday morning, and then get from Rome airport to Rome train station where we will take a train to Ancona, a port city in Italy.  We will spend the night there, and then depart for Split, Croatia Thursday morning.  If all goes well I will be on a ferry crossing the Adriatic Sea in just 36 hours or so.  I love ferries, especially ones that are big enough they don't make me sick to my stomach (this one is) and that are going from one beautiful place (Italy) to another beautiful place (Croatia) across a beautiful blue sea :-) There you have it.  I think that's enough detail to even please my mom!

This will probably be my last blog entry with few typos and grammatical errors. It is a little harder to type these things on foreign computers or mobile devices.  I am taking my iPad on this trip, and I am quite excited as my bag is much lighter now that I don't have to haul around the 7 books I will probably read while I'm on this trip.  Kindle app for iPad rocks!!

So I hope you enjoy the blog!!

Yes, Krystal, that was enough detail even for your Mother! Thank you very much. I am excited for you, and only wish I was going with you except I don't think I could do it with just a backpack. I'm remembering your first trip to Europe when you traveled with "slightly" more than a backpack :-) I'm glad you like your iPad graduation present from us and the Kindle app. We are enjoying it, too. Have fun, be safe, write often, and include photos. We'll miss you! Love ya bunches, Mom!

As always, I appreciate the blog on your foreign travels Krystal! I just pretend I'm in a different country when I dine on an outdoor patio of a restaurant in Chicago. But that doesn't happen very often, so I then pretend I'm staying at a pension with a nice garden and go sit in my backyard with a good cup of coffee. Lets plan a trip in 2021!

Cannot believe you can fit 14 days worth of stuff into that backpack. Unbelievable. Happy ferrying today!!!

I, too, am in awe of "the backpack." I'm going to have Krystal come over and pack for me next time I take a trip!!!
