One of the best parts of this trip is catching up with friends who have scattered themselves all over the country. We're meeting girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, and now babies. After Ben’s friend Burke, we’ve been on a roll with my friends.  We managed to escape the horrors of interstate 10 one of our first days on a major interstate for a lovely afternoon visit with my friend Christine and her 12 month old daughter Elena. The highlight beyond catching up with Christine was a delicious lunch with not a single ounce of fried food and then the Menil Collection which has a wonderful assortment of surrealist and contemporary art. Christine filled us in on life in Houston, being a mom and the adventures of life in Texas. It was a long way from our crazy nights at Le Violon Dangue in Paris, where we used to spend our weekend nights during study abroad, but I think if we’d had more time in Houston a late night cave dance party just might have erupted. Elena would clearly have been leading the charge.
