Driving
Texas 118 South en route to Big Bend National Park, we passed a series of
cameras on the side of the road. The installation came up suddenly after a bend
in the road. Fifty cameras at every possible height and angle, so I first
thought we were experiencing more contemporary art. But, on the opposite side of the road, just a
dozen yards down from the camera platform, sat another border patrol station;
the road narrowed and was primed to set up which was set up to arrange a road
block if necessary. Quite the welcoming committee to one of the country’s largest
national parks.
