Our first day at Cody, Wed Aug 1, began somewhat lazily but we did get to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center around 9:30.  This consists of five connected museums: the Buffalo Bill Museum, a Firearms Museum, a Western Art Museum, a Plains Indians museum, and the Draper Natural History Museum.  We spent from 9:30 to 3 inspecting all the exhibits and had a bite to eat.  They had just reopened the Buffalo Bill portion and it was quite nice with many interesting displays.  They claim to have the largest collection of firearms in the west and I believe it.  All in all it was worth every penny.  We also bought tickets for a trolley tour of the Cody area and learned much about the early days of the town,  Burger and a beer at the Silver Dollar Saloon topped off a busy day.
Our second day here was a bit more laid back.  First we enjoyed the free pancakes at the KOA.  Then we headed for WalMart so I could get three prescriptions filled.  While waiting for the prescriptions to be filled we visited the Tecumseh Trading Post and Miniature Museum.  They had hundreds of Indian and cowboy items to see and had created a huge diorama of the Western drive for settlement.  The only diorama I have seen larger than this one was at the Ringling Circus Museum in Sarasota.  After picking up my meds. we headed downtown for some souvenir shopping and a visit to a local quilt store and then back to camp for lunch and some rest. We spent the afternoon on a beautiful drive up the south fork of the Shoshone River of 42 miles.  Flanked on both sides by soaring mountains this valley was full of beautiful ranches and homes.  Well worth the drive!
Tomorrow we head south and east across Wyoming to Fort Collins, Co.  Should be a combination of beautiful scenery and barren high desert.

I was also very impressed with the museum when Kaye and I toured Cody. We also took in a rodeo in Cody, but maybe that is done on weekends.
