Going to an air conditioned shopping mall is probably the best thing we can do. When we got here today at 3PM it was 100 degrees and the same is predicted for tomorrow. Hopefully Friday this crazy heat will break some.
Last week was mostly spent in Grundy County Illinois where Donna and I hail from. We spent the week visiting relatives and checking out old haunts
. Tuesday we spent with my Aunt Jean and visited Aunt Gwen. We spent one day in Chicagoland checking out our old homes. They have weathered the 40 years pretty well. We spent a very pleasant afternoon with Naomi and Joe Leonici in Streamwood catching up and telling stories. Thursday night we had dinner at my Cousin Brett's. Jeanie had a delicious lasagna dinner and Sharilyn and her two boys were there also. We found out her boys were playing baseball the next two nights so we opted to take in the games. We saw a few people from the area we remembered. Friday night, after the game, we found out our motor home can survive a storm with 50+ mph winds. Donna called it a Disney ride. Saturday we drove to Williamson, Il which is west of Peoria to Donna's brother Al's cottage and had lunch with Al, Char, & Pat who drove up from St. Louis. Sunday we drove to Dixon to spend the afternoon with John and Janet Payne. Talk about a laugh fest. We always have a good time catching up on the kids and remembering past trips. From there we journeyed to Lake Summerset where we spent Monday and Tuesday with Al and Carol Santini. Seems like northern Illinois closes down on Mondays but we saw a great museum in Roscoe, Il and enjoyed our land and sea tours of their development.
Like I said, tomorrow is Mall of America and Friday is a 600 mile drive to Medora, ND; site of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I hope we get some cooler weather for that visit.
Nostalgia week is over and we are on the road west, headed for Canmore, Alberta. Today we drove from Lake Summerset, Il. to Maple Grove, about 388 miles. Good day to drive into the Minneapolis area as all the construction sites were shut down and traffic was light so we made the bypass around to the campground in good time. We are here two nights and are going to spend tomorrow exploring the Mall of America which we have never seen.
