Where I stayed
Upon leaving the show I sought shelter. My strategy is to say just outside the "City" whatever that may be. Usually, this gets you a lower hotel rate of which I am a huge fan.
I've stayed in Loews, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carleton's and The W's but, never really cared about the accouterments. I just wanted a bed. That is all. So a few phone calls later I find Red Roof Inn and remember the John Goodman voiced commercials of yore imploring you to "stay with Red"
This RRI is near the airport. O'Hare International Airport. I enter the tiny lobby and meet Christina. She makes sounds with her mouth but, it is difficult to understand a discernible language so I must ask her to repeat herself several times. She is also texting friends in between talking to her sitter/baby's daddy/husband/booty call. I boldly ask "Where's that accent from" She says "I'm from Chicago" I play it coy and ask "What part" as If I know the different city dialects. As if they even exist.
She is flabbergasted by this question and we move from it quickly. My room is on the second floor. I'm excited for sleep. It has been a serious travel day. Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and I'm at the thousand mile mark in my journey. I open the room door and notice that it is freezing and the walls are so thin that you can feel a draft moving through them. The bed is fine but, there aren't a lot of blankets. I decide to lose myself in TV and flip it on, sure enough the remote doesn't work, so I go for Internet and don't you know that a cheap room begets WiFi as an extra. But, I coffee is free 24 hours which makes up for all of these shortcomings. I'll go sick on coffee for the next day and that will make the world better. Woo Hoo! Vegas Kev is in the howse!
I fade off to sleep with an eye towards being up and out of there early.
