1770 beachfront backpackers

Took another overnight bus to the town of Agnes Waters and 1770 named rather unoriginally after the date Captain Cook landed!! The journey was a little gruelling this time as the driver was running late so we didn't get to stop.
The hostel/motel we stayed in was the best one yet very well run modern and clean with,,, wait for it,,, a pub!!! one of the only three in town. This place is not to be confused with the hostel of similar name 1770 backpackers, this one is also known as agnes palms and is far superior to it,s neighbour. Booked a trip to Lady Musgrove island and went around the island and snorkling off the great barrier reef. The island is the nesting grounds for 40 thousand black noddy terns, as were leaving the island we saw two manta rays come up to the shoreline along with a school of 20 or so reef sharks,,, amazing! Back on the pontoon we geared up for snorkling and entered the water only to be met by a large reef shark!!,,, and i mean LARGE! swimming below us, it was ace.{reef sharks are harmless thankfully} we remained in the water for about two hours and saw all manor of things including a large turtle feeding in front of us, it was wonderfull to watch. We also went in a semi submersable which was great for getting a close up look at the coral. On the way home we say a huge stingray in the water and a little further out to sea we were joined by a large school of very playfull dolphins who insisted in jumping so high in front of the boat we thought they were coming in! it was a perfect end to a perfect day.

The following day we borrowed bikes from the hostel and cycled to 1770, {total of two shops!} we didn`t do to bad for olds! the beaches were lovely so went in for a swim and as a bonus we got to see our first kangaroo sat in the middle of the road in front of us {good job the brakes worked!} and we saw several large lizards {not as cute as the roo}.
