After a 10 hour flight from Los Angeles we arrived at Nadi airport Fiji at 5.30 in the morning , we decided to go straight to the port where we were due to catch the catamaran Yasawa Flyer . Fortunately the local supermarket opened at 7 so we were able to stock up with a few provisions as we didnt know what to expect when we got to the island ,, so vodka and bacardi were added to our already bulging cases , even a couple of limes were added for a touch of luxury !
we set off on the flyer on time and it makes its daily run along the string of islands known as the mamanucas and the yasawas ,, some of the islands were so small you could probably walk all round them in half an hour , as we arrived at our first stop , with sharon just about holding on to her stomach ,, a small fishing boat draws alongside ,, your bags are thrown aboard ,, followed by ourselves,, we were a litle unsure as to what we had let ourselves in for as only sharon and i were getting off and as we got nearer shore could only see 3 huts or Bures ,, the boat could only anchor slightly off shore so we then got out and paddled the rest of the way while they carry your bags on their heads!!! we were then welcomed with our first fijian word 'BULA'which is hi or welcome,, to our surprise there was only one other couple on the island and they were leaving that afternoon!!!! we were shown to our accomodation (bure) which is a hut basically with a cold shower and no electric,, true man friday stuff!!! ,,fortunataly in the afternoon another couple arrived.,,,, just before lunch the staff were jumping up and down on the shore excitedly and shouting for us to come and see,,,, there was a shark,,, maybe three feet from the shore trying to catch the oddest looking fish you have ever seen!! it was called a porqupine fish and looked just like one!!
Meal time in the evening arived and two guys started serenading us with guitars and singing along with the other two female staff joining in,,, there were more of them than us!!! ha ha

The new dawn broke at 6 and we were up and about because breakfast was at 6.30,,, didnt know there were two in a day!! lol but it wasnt a problem getting up because we were in bed for 9 as the generator went off and the lights went out!
After breakfast we all went snorkelling out on the reef the guide went to the bottom of the ocean and banged a peice of coral on the rock and two sharks appeared and he hand fed them and they swam all around us he had been training them for 18 months!! it was amazing,, while we were out there we saw lots of different species of fish and a couple of other sharks came and swam with us..they were reef sharks and apparently not bothered by humans.

The other couple left after two days which meant it was us and the family and the kids who came to the island from school on friday for the weekend,  we went to church with the owners granddaughter and basically ate what they ate for two days it was fab a true fijian experience.
Left the island on the monday to catch the flyer to our next island,,, the local guys,, tui and fish,,, misjudged the timings so we sat in the fishing boat for an hour with them telling us all sorts of folklore stories,,, quality!!
We finally boarded the flyer and moved to Naviti island and landed at white sandy beach resort only to be told that they didnt have our booking so we would have to be moved next door to korovo resort,,, got there to find they have a pool and electric and hot water!! so result. however we wouldn`t have missed our true taste of fiji for the world, moments like that are irreplacable.
