Mom & Dad arrived today and picked up Major from school.  Fall Break is not something I ever experienced as a child growing up.  In most schools in Texas, they only have a Spring Break.  Major's school is a bit different in that they start early in August and then allow for a fall break around this time of year.  This is the first year they've started doing it so it's taking some getting used to for us.  Of course, what's really weird is Mickell can't go with us.  Austin ISD doesn't have a fall break and they won't let Mickell have that many days in a row off.  So, it's just me, Major, Mom, and Dad.

We prepared a fun itinerary we think.  Our plan is to fly to Salt Lake City and then drive to Idaho Falls to spend the night.  The next morning we'll drive to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and then spend several days exploring the Grand Tetons.  After that, we'll head to Yellowstone and spend 4 days there in search of bear, wolves, coyotes, elk, and moose.  After that, we'll take the Beartooth Highway out up into Montana and then end up in Cody, Wyoming.  From there, we'll head east through Big Horn until we get to Keystone, South Dakota.  After we see Mt. Rushmore, we'll head back to Salt Lake City and spend the night in Park City, Utah before heading home.  It's sure to be a beautiful adventure and, from what we can tell, the weather is going to be perfect.  We're taking a bit of a risk touring Yellowstone this time of year since Yellowstone essentially shuts down in late October and doesn't open again until May.

Since we're going to be hiking the trails, we've had to pack a good bit of gear for the trip.  We've just returned tonight from Academy where we had to buy some binoculars.  In addition to binoculars, here's my reminder list to make sure I get all the gear packed:
  • Compass
  • 4 Hiking Sticks
  • First Aid Kit
  • Day Hike Backpacks -- One for me and one for Major
  • Camelback Water Pack
  • Bear Horn and Bear Spray
  • Bug Spray
  • Hat for Sun
  • Hat for Warmth
  • Fire Kit
  • Handi Wipes
  • Rain Panchos
  • Sunscreen
  • Ear Drops
  • Cameras (Major's and mine) and Chargers
  • Wallet
  • Phone and Charger
  • iPad
  • Sunglasses
  • Nail Clippers
  • Ear Muffs
  • Headband
  • Gloves
  • Lip Ointment
  • Knife
  • Walkie Talkies (4)
  • Flashlights
  • Computer
It's a lot of gear!  Luckily, I think it will all pack in our checked luggage.   Well.  Now it's time to go get packed and get some sleep.  It's 23:30 and I still have to pack my bag with all the gear listed above and my clothes.  Luckily, Mickell just helped by getting Major's bag packed.  Our flight leaves at 09:20 tomorrow, so we'll need to be up by 6, on our way to the airport by 7, and checked in at the airport by 8.  To bed I must go!
