Most Random Event:

  • Talking to the only westerner on the Great Wall with us and later realizing that it was Gayle King (Oprah's Friend)
Funniest Moments on the Trip:
  • At 4am in Bangkok Major came over from his sofa bed and laid at the foot of our bed. Mickell woke up and started kicking and saying, "there's a monkey, get away, get away." He scurried for the light and we all laughed when it was just Major!
  • In Shanghai after being totally mobbed all day by strangers wanting to take his picture, Major was sitting with a group of girls for a picture and he had finally had enough. He just started sprinting away and ultimately hid behind a chair in a Starbucks. The girls all followed and kept walking by looking for him.
  • Shopping for custom made shoes, being completely disappointed, and then for a laugh purposefully leaving the shoes (and a hiking stick) in the Da Nang airport.
  • The monkey opening the door, coming into our room, and selectively taking the bag of peanuts (rather than the cheaper mini bar options)
  • Major's complete and utter disgust as he accidentally put his hand in monkey poop that had been left behind on the railing along the monkey trail
  • The monkeys at monkey beach on ko phi phi when the boat driver lured him on the boat and then backed away and then him diving out and swimming back to shore.
  • Mickell and Major's expressions after seeing the bats and exiting the cu chi tunnels in Saigon

Major's Top Annoyances on the Trip:
(1) Having so many strangers stalk him to take his photograph; (2) Being without our family; and, (3) Not getting to have raspberries
