What an amazing day we had today. We rented a car after breakfast this morning and headed northwest into the Julian Alps. About 20 minutes out of town we caught our first glimpse of the alps...grey, jagged peaks stretching into the sky against a foreground of changing fall colors. And there we are, driving along at 120 km/hr on a motorway marked with signs that we cannot read. Hey, we're on holiday...what's the worse that can happen?! In fact, we got exactly where we were going without getting lost, hurt or arrested!

Bled was the first stop and it was breathtaking. It is a really tiny lake -- there is a path that circles the lake in just over three miles -- and it was so quiet and clear today...not a cloud in the sky. Along the walk around the lake we came upon a painter and bought one of his paintings of the lake. Those always make the best souvenirs and we're glad to have a piece of his work. We stopped for coffee at a little stone bar cafe that has been there for 200 years and then continued on to our starting point where we stopped again for lunch. Lunch was great but the cream cakes we had for dessert are the real reason anyone goes to Bled! Unbelievable and you can only get them in Bled -- nowhere else in Slovenia. We thought of kidnapping a baker and bringing him back home with us...

After Bled we drove on to Bohinj, another alpine lake situated in the Triglav National Park. Stopped for another coffee and then got back in our car and headed back toward Ljubljana. Along the way we stopped in at a village called Radovljice -- a 16th century gem that is noted for being the center of Slovenia's apiculture: beekeeping! Walking around a 500 year old village that has looked the same for centuries was a real treat. Not like poking around the mall at home...

We arrived back in Ljubljana after dark, had a light supper and we're ready to tuck in for the night. Tomorrow, we're planning to head west toward the coast and for some time in the famed Slovenian caves...

Have we mentioned that we're loving Slovenia?

I saw the pictures..
I have to tell you the Alps didn't impressed me.
In the appalachians you have similars views or better but I recognized the old towns are unique, I love the coffee shop, It's hard when you don't understand a word, isn't it?
But coffee is almost an universal word. I like the picture where you and Kevin are by the lake, it's one of the best pictures of you two, because you looks so relaxed and in love, in that picture you transmites something different, I can't tell for sure.
And you guys had lost weight, Kevin looks less bombi and slim.
A kiss from Benicia, from..the far California, just in case don't remember any more.
