Where I stayed
We arrived at the station in Portland at about 1:30pm and made a quick pit stop before grabbing a cab out to our hotel. As we were heading to our room we discovered that my hat was missing. Whether we left it behind in the station or aboard the train, we can't recall but it wasn't with us here. Stephne spent some time on the phone trying to track down a person at the train station who might be able to see if it was there but no luck. We then learned that the car rental agency around the corner was closed on Sunday. Okay, we'll pick up the car tomorrow...
We took a taxi back to the train station to see if we could locate the missing hat but no luck there. The driver then took us down to the Old Port downtown -- the historic center of Portland
We did have a nice late lunch at the Lobster Company and chatted with a couple of locals. There was a guitarist playing folk music and the place was right on the water (just where you want a place to be when you're eating seafood!). We had lobster rolls, cole slaw and fries -- Stephne had lemonade and I had a local micro-brew.
Things are looking up, right?. Well, as we wandered down the street, a sea gull flying overhead relieved itself on my shoe. It could have been worse so I guess I should consider myself lucky. A woman from another restaurant who helped us with a wet towel to clean my shoe told me that on her 26th birthday the same thing had happened to her -- only she wore the badge of honor on her head, not her shoe!
It looked like it might rain so after a bit more wandering around we came back here to our room and settled in for an early night. After nearly a couple hours of sleep, we woke up. Stephne is reading her book and I'm doing this...we'll read a bit more about the Maine coast and fall back asleep.
The Enterprise agency opens at 8:00am on Monday morning; the sea gulls have had their fun and hats are replaceable! Can't wait to see more of Maine!
