Whilst not in the original plan, how can 2 Australians really visit Europe for a year without seeing London at least once?

But, thankfully, it was all worth it – with London throwing us a multitude of (good) surprises.

1st – Culture Shock : We would never have expected for London to provide the biggest culture shock of the trip, but after 6 months of non-English speaking countries, we simply weren't prepared for everyone to understand what we were saying or to be able to so easily read the signs and directions surrounding us. It took a few days to adjust. Not only that, they drive on the wrong side of the road! (yes, I’ve been converted).

2nd – Having our own room is more convenient than a tent : Not actually a surprise that it was going to be available or better than a tent - but the advent of a free spare room, with our own bed, inside an actual building was an amazing change of pace. Thank you for the millions of Aussie ex-pats in this city, and for Ann knowing a rather generous and nice one who lent us her place!

3rd – London actually does get some sunshine : Over 20 degrees and not a spot of rain except our last day here. Great way to see the city.

4th – Not all Poms are a whinging lot : Quite the contrary, with us getting along rather well with the locals and being totally overwhelmed by their good nature, hospitality, manners and humour. Their personalities are very much contrary to the one’s we get coming over to Australia (=D).

Between the museums, the nights out, seeing the landmarks, doing the markets, catching up with friends and just enjoying the city, we couldn’t say a bad word about the joint. Very cool place to be.
