Nice town. Stayed at Hostel Rita, bit average, but at 22 pesos with a kitchen and non smoking, it's acceptable.
We took the 9am bus from Comodoro Rivadavia to Trelew. Hopped off to have a look around and decide. No baggage storage and the tourist info office located 8 blocks away were a bummer. So we hauled our stuff to the office, who were very good. But, as usual, you can only access the park with an organised tour, or car hire, and being a Saturday afternoon everything was closed. Unimpressed in general about Trelew as a night stop we decided to push on to Puerto Madryn, after a quick trip to Gaiman. Gaiman is nice enough, but nothing special to do other than drink expensive cups of tea.
So got into PM. Rest day on the Sunday. Was thinking of going to Pyramides to see the whales, but found out that there is only one bus a day and it left at 9:30am, while I was still fast asleep. Hmm.
So, went Monday. It turned out to be a horrible day, lots of wind, and 2 companies cancelled their boats. So I paid the park entry fee (you guessed it, this adventure is a rip off) but didn't go out on a tour. There were only 2 whales around that day anyway, and I actually saw one from the beach at the end of the day. Bus back was only at 6pm. Tried hitching, but not much traffic. Get a group and hire a car.
