Caught the hop on hop off bus today which basically showed us the whole city. It first headed back up to Montjuic where we were yesterday, passing some famous Gaudi designed buildings, before heading out to Port Olympic to the beaches of Barcelona. This area was remodelled for the Olympic of 1992 - before it was just old railways yards and industry. Now it is a spectacular stretch of beaches, esplanades and modern hotels. We had the most delicious lunch at one of the beachside restaurants with the sun shining and being served by some sublime waiters.
Back on the bus, this time we were heading to the northern parts of the city, passing La Sagrada Familia and then stopping at Parc Guell - a Gaudi designed park. An amazing construction - a cross between ancient stonework and fantasy land - there were stone terraces, columns, mosaic tilework, wave design constructions in this huge park offering spectacular views of the city.We walked around for a couple of hours taking it all in. Back on the bus again to complete the circuit of the city, and passed the Barcelona Football Stadium where a huge crowd was gathering for the soccer match between Barcelona and Glasgow Celtics. This is a stadium with a capacity of 100,000 and they reckon it will be packed out. When the bus arrived back in Plaza Catalunya, it was overtaken by Celtic supporters in their green and white chanting non stop and drinking non stop. It was a phenomenal sight.
By the way, Barcelona won 2-1 scoring the decider in the 90th minute, only moments before full time. There was much celebration in Barcelona that night.
