Set off on foot this morning to explore part of the city - first taking in the harbour and then walking to the furnicular railway and taking it up to Montjuic (where the Olympic Stadium is) and then the cable car to the top of the mountain to the fortress that guards the city. This was really interesting and great views and then we caught the cable car back to Montjuic and walked past the Olympic venues. This is also where the Royal Palace is which is now the national art museum - a spectacular building and location. Next stop was the Bull Ring which has been turned into a huge shopping complex, since bullfighting is on its way out in many parts of Spain. We kept walking, passing the old Merket of St Antony, to La Ramblas where Craig indulged himself with a biggest beer I've ever seen.
On our way back to the apartment, we stopped at the Cathedral - a beautiful old building with superb towers and a garden courtyard with geese. We went inside and stumbled on Putney Senior High School Choir doing a recital. It was something very special.
This city is something special. People said we'd love it and we do. It has so much atmosphere, people are out and about well into the night enjoying themselves and locals are doing the same.
