What I did
The Walled Towns of Avila and Toledo
On our way to Madrid today, but stopped firstly at Avila, a walled medieval town that has the best preserved walls and buildings in much of Europe. Only enough time for a distant photo unfortunately. Onto Toledo, another spectacular walled town with the river flowing below. It has narrow streets, beautiful iron balconies and street lights, a stunning cathedral. The church was a converted mosque but with more gothic and renaissance architecture. It had a beautiful altar and sculpture designed to catch the dawning light, a solid gold monstrance for Corpus Christi day and it also houses 19 Greco works of art.
Onto Madrid and back to where it all began, 16 days earlier. We had farewell drinks before enjoying a special dinner with everyone.
It's been a great tour but a hectic one. We are looking forward to being on our own and doing our own thing in our own time.
