We had a short stay in Paraty and although the beach in the town is nothing spectacular the portuguese colonial town is really beautiful. Many of the buildings are from the 16th century when Paraty was a rich export town for gold from nearby mines to Rio and Portugal.

Most of the inner town is heritage listed and can only be accessed on foot. Vehicles are allowed into these heritage areas on Wednesdays for deliveries. The streets are big old rough cobble stones and it was quiet amusing to see one young boy trying to negotiate it on rollerblades - I wasnt fast enough to get a photo.

As the beach wasnt as spectacular we headed inland to Penha one day to a river that had a natural rock slide. It was a lot of fun and the local boys were insane to watch as they slid down the rock slide standing up bare footed. I managed to upload some video footage of them, the air they get at the end is scary as they land only feet away from the rocks. On the way home that day I saw a horse drawn cart with some young boys driving it and a huge subwoofer on the back blasting out the music... Only in South America!
