Tuesday 28th Continued East on Interstate 90 into the Great Plains, then South, East and North on the Highway 240 loop through the Badlands National Park. It covers Prairie land, currently all tall green grass & flowers due to recent rains (which are in part due to the flooding to the West, moisture being evaporated up, blown East & falling as rain), and the Badlands, where the soil has been largely eroded away, leaving deep canyons & ravines. I again saw Prairie Dogs, now restricted to just 2% of their original range. I then drove West on Interstate 90 to visit the site of the Delta-09 Minuteman Missile . The silo is still there, but with a glass roof & a training missile inside. I continued West to Wall & visited the Wall Drug Store, where they really do iced water for free & 5 cents cups of coffee (& refills!) as you see on sidings for miles down the Interstate. They also have the USA's largest private collection of Western art on display in the dining areas, plus loads of tourist tat for sale. I had a late lunch (and my first pizza of the North American leg of my tour!) at the Badlands Bar in Wall, then back East on Interstate 90 to the West bank of the Missouri River for dinner at Al's Oasis (5 cents coffee again!), before crossing the River (which was in flood) & sleeping in the car in a lay-by.
