Where I stayed
We left Lima after a walking tour around the central area including the San Fransisco Church and its Catacomb. Yes been there and done that, but it was good to start to get to know the new friends. We took an morning flight to Juliaca 3820m above sea level and got transfered to Puno. Many of us are feeling a bit tired from the altitute. Carrying in excess of 25kg of luggages up 3 flights of stairs certainly didnt help me. We had dinner at Balcany of Puno where there was a music and dance show
Good Friday, we took the tricycle taxis to the port. Minutes after the journey begin we were in the middle of a hail storm. I am amazed no one got hurt as we zip through the local traffic. My tricycle almost got collided with a car! Then we boarded San Salvador for our boat cruise in Lake Titicaca. The water was a bit rough but nothing like the Drake's Passage! a few passenger got seasick however. We visited Tequile Island first this is a beautiful farming community that is now making a living selling their knittings. The indeginous people require a small payment for have their photograph taken. Walking up any hills or stairway is still a very difficult task. Then we arrived at Llachon and all of us got split up to stay with a local family homestay. I was with Peter, Jenna and our tour guide. The family was really nice and the kids were sensational. We took a hike up to see the sunset and the climb almost killed me. But the view was beautiful and made the hike worth the effort. We then returned to our family for dinner before heading for an early bed.
Easter Saturday we had local pancake before leaving our very welcoming homestay to travel to the flooting island of Uros Titino. Again the indeginous people made us very welcome. We learnt the way their island was built and the many use of the reeds. Like Tequile Island they were trying to sell us their crafts. We took a ride on one of the reed boat. The children hopped on and sang for us. It was an amazing experience again. We returned to Puno by early afternoon and was able to freshen up before exploring the township.
Tomorrow we will take a 6 hour bus to Cuzco.
