My transit through Buenos Aires turned out to be a nightmare. I missed my connecting flight to Santiago due to a long delay in baggage claim. Unfortunately the two airlines that I am flying with cannot check my luggage directly to Santiago. Neither airlines are claiming responsibility. After going back and forth the two terminals to try and resolve my problem I was put on waiting list for the final flight to Santiago the night.

The irony was I thought I had a lucky day. On the flight from Ushuaia I got to sit business class. The food and service was better, there was marginal increased in leg room. The flight from Ushuaia was initally delayed but made up lost time and actually arrived on time. From there onward it all became pear shaped.

Not only my flight from Santiago was on time, the next flight was delayed for an hour and the next scheduled was cancelled forcing all remaining passengers onto those two flights. So after waiting till 11pm I was instructed to return at 5am for the next day. The problem was there is only one flight with LAN from Santiago to La Paz and that depart from 06:45am. I was in deep trouble....

I stayed at a B&B next to the airport. I didn't have much sleep. Firstly I was all worked up with the whole affair. I was going through in my mind what possible options did I have. Then there was the noise, the B&B was located on a major highway next to the airport, the noise from the traffic and planes kept me up. I had a wake up call at 4:30am to be ready at the airport by 5am. Lastly there was an annoying mosquitoe buzzing constantly over my head I must had only 2-3 hours sleep.

So with my blurry eyes I went to the ticket office with the intention to buy a new ticket to get myself to La Paz, afterall I had travel insurance. Unfortunately the earliest flight will allow me to take the overnight bus to Uyuni on the 13th. I would not have adequate time to explore the Salar de Uyuni and worse still I may risk not gettting to Lima on time for my intrepid tour. With that in mind I decided to stay at Buenos Aires and head to Lima a little earlier instead.
