With the weekend now over, sleeping in was welcome. We left the apartment this morning, at 11am and on today's agenda, was souk'ing. Souk's are a market. There are different types, such as the ones we were visiting today - Spice and Gold.

These souks were located in the northern part of the Dubai city. Travelling in the car through the narrow streets, you can see that this area is the life of the town. Unfortunately though, the heat is still too overbearing to really walk out, and shop around through the many stalls. We park our car at the nearby parking lot, and walk through the sheltered alleys in the spice souk area (photo 1,2). As you can see from the photos, the stalls do display many spices, and there are just hundreds of these shops as you make your way around town. Many of these shops have air conditioning running, but they also leave their door open to show that they are open and welcoming you. We stop over inside a shop which has air conditioning to dry the sweat off us, but also, to smell through their many spices. If you're western, they tend to peddle you saffron of which this place has no shortage of.

Next we meander our way through to the gold souk. To be honest, this place is more for the women with jewellery everywhere. Again, a plethora of shops showcasing all types of jewellery, and well... I can't really describe it very well, but for me, if you've seen one jewellery shop, you've seen them all.

After lunch, we drive back home and Mark head to work in the office. So left to my own devices, I update my travel blog, send some emails, watch tv... and think about dinner.

Dropped by the supermarket at 8pm and buy some chicken breast, and drinks really. I check out Mark's kitchen and cook up some rice, fry the chicken chucking in random sauces, and well... test it out. It was a totally lame meal. From this ordeal, I learned that:
* Don't buy chicken breast unless you plan to marinate it.

At least I didn't starve ... tommorrow, we'll see what comes up - fried rice I think.
