Our flight back to Europe from Rio all went according to plan. We left the hotel mid afternoon and were on board for 5.45pm. We were flying with TAP Portugal for the first time. The seats were great and we had a superb 5 course dinner with nice wine and port to finish.

At this time of year there is only a 2 hour time difference between Rio and Lisbon which reduced the jet lag. We managed to get a bit of sleep and got into Lisbon at 5.45 am, and we were ready to go and get our bus in 25 minutes. Unfortunately the bus we wanted didn't start until 7am, so se sat enjoying the cool fresh air for 40 minutes until it turned up. By 7.20am we were in our hotel and by 7.30am we were in our beds as they had a room available - what a bonus after a 10 hour flight!

In the afternoon we had a wander down to the city centre then sat down at the sea in the sunshine before dinner and an early night.

On Thursday we took the train out to a quaint little town called Sintra. We wandered round the old cobbled streets then climbed up very steep streets and then steps to the Castle at the top. It was worth it in the end as the views across the countryside to the sea were superb. Then it was the bus back down to save the travel weary legs and a late sandwich lunch before it was time to catch the train back to Lisbon - only a 7hr day today ...... we must be slacking! After dinner at our little local restaurant that we have eaten in each time we have been to Lisbon, it was back to pack the cases for the final time.

Glasgow, via London Heathrow tomorrow. You know it just doesn't have the same ring to it as 'Rio de Janeiro', but back to Bonny Scotland it is and it will be great to see the family and get into our own bed after 31 nights away.
