Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I woke up this morning prepared to be bombarded with hearts, chocolates, flowers, and love music everywhere around town, but Valentine's Day is not nearly as commercialized here as it is in the U.S. I've seen a couple signs and some pink cakes while walking around town, so some girls and I are going to go out for dessert tonight and be our own Valentine's date :) (no, we haven't met any sweet Dutch boys that have swept us off our feet...yet!)
I am currently taking an Intercultural Communicataion class and it is really interesting to be in such a different city when taking the class. I wrote a short paper about my "cultural" experience in the Post Office yesterday for class and my classmates pointed out to me that I may be a clepto. I find myself picking up everything that I think and hope is free even if it is in Dutch. At the Post Office I got a newspaper and a packet that said Studenten -- which I assumed was student -- but I did get stamps which were 5 euro for a book of 5 (and we thought our stamps were expensive!!) So I made it out of the Post Office alive and I stuck my letter in the giant yelllow box which I hope was the right slot! I expected there to be a slight language barrier here, and it hasn't been all that bad, but most everything is written in Dutch--especially in the grocery stores! I got some juice which I assume is apple peach because that's what's on the box and it is actually really good. I now understand why restaraunts have picture menus!!
I don't know if it's just because it's Valentine's Day, but I think that people over here have almost as big of a sweet tooth as I do, hard to believe but true! I haven't tried any real chocolate yet, but I did chocolate toast at dinner today and don't even get me started on the candy stores here!! Amazing!! There will probably be a whole entry or two dedicated to candy stores later on...haha! I do have some very exciting news though--we are going to Paris!!!! Yup, we are going to the "City of Love" for Valentine's Day weekend! My friends Mackenzie, Sarah, Jessica, and I leave tomorrow on the train bright and early at 5:58 am for our "romantic" weekend-haha! I am sooo excited!! I can't wait to tell you all about it--but I'd better get to packing :) sorry for the random entry--it has been a pretty random week I guess, haha! Wish me luck on my first train ride and Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Wow!
So I feel like I'm really technologically inept - Grandma and Grandpa figured out this website and posted a comment before I did, and they have only even had a computer for 2 months! Anyway, it sounds like you're having a blast, and I'm loving your entries and pictures. I'm living vicariously through you. I don't feel very wordly or adventurous in my maternity pants today...and you do look exceptionally cute in your pink coat! Love and miss you tons! Your older, puffier sister, Kylie

Wow! You are one lucky girl!
Hey, Kelsey. What a joy to read about your exciting adventures. It is so very cold here this week... 20 below was our regular temp this a.m. w/o the windchill. Warms my heart to hear about your travels :-). Work productivity has dropped since you left the states!
p.s. How are classes coming??
Take care, have fun! lyl, Jean
