I've just finished settling into my room here at Teikyo University Holland, and while it is nothing as compared to home, I can make it my home away from home away from home :) I brought lots of pictures and hung them all on my wall already--I love telling everybody about my cute little nephews and niece and the pictures are good conversation starters I guess. Most of the students came into this not knowing much and I am very grateful that Mackenzie is here with me and the faculty director is from USD so we knew/know what we were/are getting into. Mackie has a blog as well with some fun stuff--you can look at it at www.travelpod.com/members/mackieineurope.
Maastricht is a beautiful city and it seems that everytime we go out exploring we find a new treasure. Mackenzie, Sarah, Shauna, Nicki, and I got some delicious waffels with powdered sugar that I might be addicted to already! There are 29 students here currently and they are a blast--we've taken many trips downtown just to look at everything the city has to offer and we are feeling the consequences! Every street and sidewalk (except highways) are cobblestone which is very beautiful, but very hard on the feet..ankles..knees...hips...and my arms are even a little sore today! It is so worth it though and I am planning on doing that tomorrow afternoon after class. Oh yes, we do have class! They start tomorrow at 9am and go until 12:15. I am taking Intercultural Communication for my first 3 week block with Jill Tyler, a proffessor from USD. We had orientation today and got to meet the professors formally and eat together. We had pizza again (they must think Americans like pizza...haha!) I don't know what my pizza was called but it had huge chunks of onion, ham, and peaches and was suprisingly pretty good!
Almost all of us students went out on the town last night and I experienced my first European club, The Highlander. It was a blast! We met many people from different countries like Italy, Estonia, and even ran into a guy from Missouri there. It seems like a very cultured, high class city, and if I only had the money to shop at all the high fashion stores we walk by I would come back a supermodel..haha! I better get rested up for my first day of class tomorrow-Mackenzie and her mom insist that we take a first day of class picture and I am gonna look darn good for it :) haha

Wish me luck!!

love
